MACOM and IQE sign a long-term supply agreement… driving a £45 million investment and entry onto the board
MACOM($MTSI) Signs Long-term Supply Agreement with UK Semiconductor Materials Company IQE and Simultaneously Invests £45 Million (Approximately 66.37B Korean Won). The move aims to enhance supply chain stability while securing the core manufacturing infrastructure needed for growth strategies.
Advancing Long-term Supply Agreements and Equity Investment
MACOM announced it will sign a long-term supply agreement (LTSA) covering multiple technological fields with IQE plc. Epitaxial services are one of the key processes that determine semiconductor performance. As demand for high-performance chips grows in communications, data centers, defense, and other sectors, their importance is increasingly recognized.
This transaction not only includes a supply contract but also involves financial support. MACOM plans to invest a total of £45 million in IQE. The investment structure combines equity investment and convertible notes with features of convertible loans. In Korean won, the amount is approximately 66.37B KRW.
Strengthening Cooperation Through Board Participation
Through this investment, MACOM will also gain a seat on IQE’s board of directors. This is interpreted as MACOM’s intention to go beyond a simple customer relationship and expand cooperation as a strategic partner. By combining supply contracts, capital investment, and board involvement, the relationship between the two parties will be long-term and deepened.
The company stated that this contract aims to enhance supply chain resilience and support its growth strategy. Recently, the semiconductor industry has shown a trend of focusing on stability and securing core materials and processes to address geopolitical variables and potential production disruptions.
Conditions Pending Regulatory Approval and Closing
However, this transaction has not yet reached the final approval stage. The agreement requires meeting routine closing conditions and obtaining approval from some regulatory agencies. Once these procedures are completed, the long-term supply contract and investment deal can be officially finalized.
Market analysts believe this announcement exemplifies MACOM’s step to expand its direct management of core supply chains. Especially in the semiconductor industry, stable raw materials and processes are directly related to competitiveness, so this decision is seen as having strategic significance beyond short-term investment.
