I just remembered a case that truly marked Mexico years ago. When they confirmed the death of 'El Mencho' recently, the story of 'El Pirata de Culiacán' resurfaced on social media— that YouTuber who went viral and was eventually murdered under circumstances that still spark debate today.

Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales was a young man from Sinaloa born in 2000, who became viral before reaching adulthood. He grew up with his grandmother, moved to Culiacán at age 15, and started uploading videos of parties, regional music, alcohol consumption... that kind of content that explodes on social media. He reached nearly 800,000 followers on Facebook and over 300,000 on Instagram. Several artists dedicated corridos to him, so he was quite well-known in his circle.

But what happened afterward is what everyone remembers. On November 9, 2017, 'El Pirata de Culiacán' posted a video where he basically insulted 'El Mencho,' the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Lagunas Rosales said something like he didn’t care who the boss was. The video went viral instantly
