Seoul's highest, Busan's lowest... Nationwide gasoline prices surpass 1,844 KRW, rising in tandem with diesel
The average price of gasoline at nationwide gas stations is 1844.36 KRW per liter, up 24.24 KRW from last week, breaking through the 1840 KRW mark. Diesel prices have also risen to 1839.18 KRW per liter, an increase of 22.29 KRW, showing a synchronized upward trend. The prices of both types of fuel have maintained an upward momentum for two consecutive weeks, with increasing upward pressure.
By region, based on gasoline prices, Seoul’s price is 1876.83 KRW per liter, the highest in the country, 32.47 KRW above the national average. In contrast, Busan’s price is 1819.75 KRW, the lowest in the country, widening the gap with Seoul’s price to 57.08 KRW. For diesel, Seoul also has the highest price at 1862.33 KRW, while Busan has the lowest at 1815.86 KRW, with a difference of 46.47 KRW between the two.
Regionally, the capital area leads the upward trend. Gyeonggi Province (1851.90 KRW) and Incheon (1840.40 KRW) have prices above the national average, joining the upward movement. The Chungcheong area is also experiencing a synchronized increase, with prices in South Chungcheong (1858.17 KRW), North Chungcheong (1854.87 KRW), and Sejong (1844.88 KRW) approaching or exceeding the 1850 KRW line. Daejeon’s price is relatively low at 1832.40 KRW, but it has risen 34.78 KRW from last week, showing a significant increase. In contrast, in the Yeongnam area, prices in some regions such as Busan (1819.75 KRW) and Ulsan (1826.03 KRW) are below the average, showing a limited upward trend.
In terms of international oil prices during the same period, gasoline is around 1819.23 KRW and diesel is around 1815.77 KRW, which is lower than domestic prices. However, due to structural delays in reflecting the rise in international product prices, domestic oil prices are likely to continue facing upward pressure in the short term. Although the increase may be limited due to refining profits and exchange rate variables, whether it can stabilize near the 1850 KRW line in the short term becomes a major focus.
