Pi Mainnet Hits Another Upgrade Wall – Node Operators Have Until May 15
** Pi Mainnet is upgrading to Protocol 23. All node operators must complete the v23 update by May 15 or risk disconnection from the network.**
Pi Core Team, posting on X, confirmed the Pi Mainnet is moving to Protocol 23. Every active node must upgrade to v23 before May 15 or drop off the network entirely. “All Mainnet nodes are required to complete this step before the deadline to remain connected,” the team wrote.
The latest node software sits at version 0.5.4, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux via minepi.com/pi-node. The team flagged the process as longer than previous upgrades.
The Clock Is Already Running Out
Plan accordingly, was the exact phrasing. Spare notice for an upgrade described as more time-intensive than usual.
This is not Pi’s first mandatory node deadline. Back in March, a similar Protocol 21 upgrade carried an April 6 cutoff, with the Core Team warning that nodes missing the window risked disconnection.
Protocol 23 aligns with Stellar Core architecture. The upgrade has been in discussion across the community since at least late 2025, when analysts pegged it as the version that would open the door to DEX functionality, smart contracts, and AMM tools on the Mainnet.
Whether all that arrives with this specific rollout remains unclear.
Not Everyone Is Celebrating the News
On the same day the Core Team posted the upgrade notice, user @msdq2175 surfaced a different frustration on X: “Still my 2nd migration not done. Why?”
The timing is sharp. While node operators are being pushed toward a technical deadline, a segment of the community remains stuck on basic migration steps. Second Mainnet migrations opened gradually, requiring 2FA and KYC clearance before balances can move. For users whose referral teams haven’t cleared verification, the wait continues.
The Core Team did not address the migration backlog in the Protocol 23 announcement.
SuperNodes, which run the consensus layer and must stay connected around the clock, face the highest exposure if the deadline passes without action. Regular nodes and SuperNodes both operate through the desktop application — same software, different stakes.
