US media: The United States demands Iran suspend uranium enrichment for 20 years, while Iran hopes for a shorter suspension period
ME News report. On April 14 (UTC+8), an American official and an informed source revealed that the United States proposed during negotiations held in Islamabad over the weekend that Iran accept a uranium enrichment pause lasting 20 years. Iran, on the other hand, proposed a shorter term, in single-digit years. Sources said that the U.S. demand for a uranium enrichment pause is a key issue in this marathon-style negotiation. “On the U.S. side, they proposed a pause of at least 20 years, along with various other restrictions,” said a source familiar with the matter. The U.S. also demanded that Iran move all highly enriched uranium out of the country. Iran said it is willing to accept “monitored down-blending procedures” for these materials.
