Just finished a night run and checked the blockchain, saw someone talking about IBC, message passing, bridges, and so on.

To put it simply, cross-chain isn't that mysterious; the key is who you trust.
IBC is relatively "standardized"; both chains' light clients, consensus security, and relayers all need to be reliable, and if any link fails, the messages you receive might be "fake news."
Many bridges are more like handing assets over to an external verification/multisig/oracle system for safekeeping; it's fast, but trust is also greater, so you need to be aware.
Recently, modular and data availability layer narratives have excited developers, but users are confused—I can understand that.
In the end, it all comes down to one question in your wallet: who do I really trust for this cross-chain?
Anyway, I now try to choose more transparent cross-chain paths, even if it's slower, for now, that's the plan.
