At 10:50 a.m., our country’s first 180,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier, “Georgetown,” which was independently designed and built, completed delivery at the China Merchants Heavy Industries dock in Nantong, Jiangsu. The vessel slowly left the berth at the Nantong section of the Yangtze River and sailed to Singapore. The ship was built at the China Merchants Shipbuilding Haimen Base. It has an overall length of 298.8 meters and a molded width of 48 meters. It adopts a dual-fuel low-speed propulsion system and offers advantages such as a low evaporation rate and high environmental performance. It is currently the largest liquefied natural gas carrier with completed construction in China, marking a major breakthrough for our country in the high-end clean energy vessel manufacturing sector. An LNG carrier is a specialized ship used to transport LNG at an ultra-low temperature of -163°C. Because the design and construction are extremely difficult, it is known as the “pearl on the crown” of shipbuilding, alongside aircraft carriers and luxury cruise ships. With the delivery of this vessel, China now has five shipyards that are capable of delivering LNG carriers, and the overall construction level has entered the world-class echelon. (CCTV News)
