The White House on the 7th stated that the United States and Israel both agree to a conditional two-week ceasefire with Iran. However, two former senior Israeli officials told U.S. media that Israel believes a ceasefire is premature and hopes military actions against Iran can continue for at least another month. On the evening of the 7th Eastern Time, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on social media that he “agrees to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks,” provided Iran agrees to “fully, immediately, and safely” open the Strait of Hormuz. This is less than an hour and a half before Trump’s so-called “final deadline” for Iran. The Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council later announced that Iran will hold two weeks of political negotiations with the United States in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
