The area of the Poyang Lake Tongjiang River water body in Jiangxi first exceeded 2,000 square kilometers this year.

Due to the combined effects of frequent rainfall and an increase in upstream inflow, the water level of China’s largest freshwater lake, Poyang Lake, has been continuously rising recently. Today (the 8th), the area of the water body that connects to the river at Poyang Lake exceeded 2,000 square kilometers. At 4:00 PM on April 8, the water level at the Xingzi hydrological station—a landmark station on Poyang Lake—was 13.54 meters, up 0.07 meters from the same period yesterday, and the area of the Poyang Lake connecting water body reached 2,030 square kilometers. With the rising water level of Poyang Lake, the lake surface has expanded further, which is beneficial for residents’ production and daily life in areas along the lake, agricultural irrigation, fish reproduction in the lake area, and the passage of vessels traveling through the lake.
