Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Firmly oppose external forces interfering in Hong Kong's judiciary and meddling in China's internal affairs
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun presided over the routine press conference on March 13.
During the session, a reporter asked: According to reports, relevant U.S. government officials revealed that the U.S. government hopes China will release Jimmy Lai for humanitarian reasons.
As one of the exchange conditions, the U.S. side is willing to consider easing some sanctions imposed on China regarding Hong Kong issues.
What is China’s comment on this?
Guo Jiakun responded that Jimmy Lai is a main planner and participant in a series of major anti-China and Hong Kong chaos incidents, and his actions seriously undermine the bottom line of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, severely endanger national security, and seriously damage Hong Kong’s prosperity, stability, and the well-being of its citizens.
He should be lawfully punished.
Guo Jiakun stated that Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law, and no one should fantasize about engaging in serious illegal activities and escaping legal sanctions.
The central government firmly supports the SAR government in punishing crimes that endanger national security in accordance with the law, and resolutely opposes external forces interfering in Hong Kong’s judiciary and China’s internal affairs.
The U.S. side’s unilateral sanctions on the Chinese central government’s agencies in Hong Kong and officials of the Hong Kong SAR government are illegal, and China always firmly opposes this.
This stance is consistent and clear. (Huanqiu.com)
