Techub News reports that, according to DigitalAsset, South Korea's Board of Audit and Inspection has requested the Ministry of Health and Welfare to amend relevant laws to include virtual assets within the scope of assets reviewed for basic pension eligibility. The Audit and Inspection Committee concluded that "digital assets clearly fall within the category of property with economic value, and even if digital assets are a new type of financial asset different from existing financial assets, there is no reason to treat their property value differently." In response, the Ministry of Health and Welfare stated, "It is necessary to manage this to ensure that basic pensions are not paid out to individuals with relatively high incomes, whose income does not fall within the bottom 70% of earners; and when calculating the assets of those wishing to receive a basic pension, digital assets should be included."
