Instead, the U.S. was trying to use negotiations, under the cover of diplomatic rhetoric, to impose its will on Iran. Azizi said that Iran approached the U.S. with a sense of distrust, and firmly safeguarded the interests of the Iranian people in areas including the nuclear issue, the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, and compensation claims—when the U.S. side saw Iran’s determination, they backed down.
