According to him, 95% of user messages are stored in regular cloud backups on Apple and Google servers — without E2E encryption.

Backup encryption exists, but it is optional, and most users simply do not enable it.

Even if you turn on protection on your end, it doesn't help: 90% of your contacts have it disabled, so your conversations still leak into unencrypted backups.

Plus, WhatsApp stores and reveals metadata about who you communicate with.

Apple and Google transmit such data to third parties thousands of times a year.
