On April 7, 2026, Cai Wei, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Borel, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General for Management Affairs, who was visiting China. Cai Wei said that as a contributor to the United Nations’ Second General Assembly and a contributor to UN peacekeeping assessments, China has always earnestly fulfilled its financial obligations to the United Nations, supporting the United Nations and multilateralism through practical actions. With the current international situation growing more unstable and unilateralism and protectionism on the rise, China is willing to further deepen cooperation with the United Nations in areas such as management affairs, firmly safeguarding the status and role of the United Nations. Borel spoke highly of China’s strong support for multilateralism and the United Nations, and said he is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China, promote reforms to improve the quality and efficiency of the United Nations, better fulfill its mission and address challenges, and work to enhance the representation of personnel from developing countries in the United Nations.
