💬 Analysts have called Iran's scheme of paying in Bitcoin for passage through the Strait of Hormuz "virtually unfeasible"

According to TRM Labs analysts, Tehran relies on intermediaries for international crypto transfers. This way, the country hides the payer's connection to sanctioned organizations.

The shadow fleet will be able to operate as before, relying on already used digital assets, but Western shipping companies are unlikely to be able to buy cryptocurrency on exchanges or from over-the-counter dealers — analytical tools will immediately flag such transactions.

As a result, all difficulties will fall on shipping companies, and under such a scenario, dealers are unlikely to organize the process through personal wallets for fear of being added to the OFAC list. The only option is if the United States is truly involved in the process, but then regulators would have to develop a separate settlement system for shipping companies.
