Quietly gaining momentum: Intel fully launches Xe3P graphics architecture open-source driver adaptation work
IT Home March 6 News, tech media phoronix yesterday on March 5 published a blog post, saying that Intel has quietly started open-source adaptation work for the Xe3P architecture in Mesa’s OpenGL and Vulkan drivers.
The initial driver support for the Xe3P architecture still requires a few more weeks before it can go live. The backend development team still needs to complete a large amount of foundational adaptation work. Both the OpenGL “Iris” driver and the Vulkan “ANV” driver have entered the preparation stage.
Intel developers merged initial Xe3P GenXML support code into Mesa. It mainly uses a Python generator to extract hardware data structures, instructions, and other definitions from XML files, and then automatically generates related C language code for the driver programs to call.
Intel has already begun building Xe3P support for the ANV and Iris driver programs with the GFX_VERx10 “350” code path. However, this update has not directly enabled and activated new hardware yet; instead, it focuses on establishing the foundational code path.
IT Home, citing the blog post, says that Intel is expected to launch the first batch of GPUs based on the Xe3P architecture in 2026, covering different product lines in multiple forms. In the consumer market, Intel is expected to release “Nova Lake” desktop processors this year.
In the mobile or high-efficiency domain, the “Nova Lake-P” processor will use the Xe3P-LPG module. In addition, to comprehensively enhance multimedia performance, Intel also expects to introduce the Xe3P-LPM media processing module responsible for video encoding and decoding, as well as the Xe3P-LPD display module dedicated to handling image output.
In the enterprise AI field, to meet the massive and complex AI computing demands, Intel’s AI inference-focused “Crescent Island” GPU will also adopt this core architecture and be equipped with onboard LPDDR5X memory with a capacity of up to 160GB.
