Starting from midnight on April 5th, the fuel surcharge for domestic flights will increase from the current 10 yuan and 20 yuan to 60 yuan and 120 yuan? This is the latest information circulating in the airline market, sourced from a notice by Shandong Airlines.

According to the notice, the fuel surcharge for domestic passenger transportation on routes over 800 kilometers is 120 yuan per passenger, while routes under 800 kilometers are 60 yuan per passenger. Disabled military personnel, police officers disabled in the line of duty, and children will pay half price. This surcharge standard is significantly higher than the current fuel surcharge of 20 yuan for routes over 800 kilometers and 10 yuan for shorter routes.

However, there is no definitive source for the current fuel surcharge standards. The market has circulated multiple versions, some doubling the surcharge to 20 yuan and 40 yuan. The recent fivefold increase has indeed exceeded market expectations.

Market insiders explain that the large increase in fuel surcharges is because the settlement price of aviation kerosene has nearly doubled, rising from 5,622 yuan per ton to 9,802 yuan per ton, an increase of 4,180 yuan per ton.

As of the time of reporting, there is also news that the updated fuel surcharge standard for April has been revoked due to the cancellation by the authorities, and a new notification will be issued separately.
