U.S. intelligence agencies: Iran currently has no intention of substantive negotiations, believing Trump lacks sincerity
ME News report, April 2 (UTC+8): U.S. officials revealed that multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have recently assessed that the Iranian government is currently unwilling to engage in substantive negotiations to end the U.S.-Iran war. Officials said the assessment is that the Iranian government believes it is in a strong position in the war and does not need to give in to the U.S.’s diplomatic demands. They said that although Iran is willing to keep communication channels open, the country does not trust the United States and believes that President Trump is not genuinely interested in negotiations. Over the past year, Trump has twice ordered attacks on Iran during negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. These assessments are consistent with recent statements made by Iranian officials. U.S. and Iranian officials said the two countries are exchanging information through intermediary countries, and perhaps also through direct channels, but they have not negotiated the conditions for a ceasefire or for ending the war.
