On the first day of U.S.-Israel airstrikes against Iran, President Trump unveiled his war objectives in an eight-minute video.
On February 28, in an overview speech, he claimed: “Our goal is to protect the American people by eliminating the imminent threat posed by the Iranian regime.” Although there is currently no evidence that Iran poses an urgent threat to the United States.
Now, with a fragile ceasefire agreement officially in effect, it is expected that the president and his staff will try to press Iran into making concessions during the negotiations, in order to realize some of the goals he initially put forward.
The following is an assessment of the current battle situation based on the five goals he described in the video.
Goal One
“We will destroy their missiles, level their missile industry, and wipe it out once again, completely.”
In the airstrikes, U.S. and Israeli forces destroyed a large number of Iranian ballistic missiles and launchers, but many facilities remained intact. On the first day of the ceasefire, Iran continued to fire missiles in the region, and it also used attack drones.
On Wednesday, at least five Arab Gulf countries said that after the ceasefire agreement was reached, they were subjected to missile and drone attacks launched by Iran. These attacks and developments such as Israel’s continued offensive in Lebanon could directly endanger the region.
