Iran’s Foreign Minister, Araghchi, said in an interview released on the 18th that Iran’s position on the peaceful use of nuclear energy will not undergo any major changes. Araghchi said that Iran has always sought to exercise its own rights and use nuclear energy peacefully, both in the past and today. Although Iran’s current new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not yet announced a related position, he believes Iran’s nuclear policy should not change much.

As for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said it must align with Iran’s and the region’s interests. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he said that after the war ends, coastal states should draft new agreements for the Strait of Hormuz and for ships passing through it, to ensure the safety and unimpeded flow of navigation while meeting Iran’s and the region’s interests.

Araghchi also emphasized that the development of the regional situation up to this point is entirely the responsibility of the U.S. He further stressed that Iran’s strikes on nearby U.S. military bases have affected neighboring countries, and that its entire responsibility rests with the U.S.—it is the United States that initiated the war and dragged the regional situation into its current state.
