Xinhua News Agency reported that on April 7, a reporter learned from the Zhuhai Border Inspection General Station’s Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge border inspection station that on April 6, the station inspected a total of 29,800 vehicle entry and exit trips, setting the highest single-day record since the bridge opened.

According to statistics from the border inspection authorities, among the vehicle entry and exit trips on April 6, there were 28,400 passenger car trips, 22,800 vehicles with Hong Kong and Macao single plates, and 17,900 vehicles with Hong Kong single plates. All three figures also refreshed the highest record since the bridge opened. During this year’s Qingming Festival holiday (from April 4 to 6), the total number of vehicles entering and exiting via the Zhuhai highway port exceeded 77,400 trips, of which vehicles with Hong Kong and Macao single plates reached 56,400 trips, accounting for more than 72.8%.

“Data shows that the cross-border travel pattern mainly driven by Hong Kong and Macao residents self-driving ‘going north’ has become increasingly mature and has become the mainstay of port vehicle traffic.” A relevant official from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge border inspection station said.

The relevant official from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge border inspection station introduced that, in response to passenger and vehicle flows that continue to run at a high level, the station started contingency plans in advance, kept the law-enforcement communication mechanism among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao running smoothly, strengthened information sharing and assistance and exchange, scientifically analyzed and judged peak hours for vehicle and passenger flows, and dynamically adjusted the deployment of police forces. At the same time, it opened and put to full use inspection lanes in advance. It also strengthened coordination and cooperation with the units stationed on the island, and coordinated the opening of the “cargo-and-passenger” lanes based on real-time vehicle traffic, to maximize the port’s capacity for diverting and guiding vehicles.
