Trump 2.0 begins to slow down, with misjudgments in both domestic and foreign policies
Heilang Wushi: The Trump administration of the United States has been in office for 10 months. Although it initially saw results in areas such as investment tax cuts and immigration policy, it is now clearly struggling in its diplomacy with China and in controlling prices. With support for Trump among key independent voters declining in the midterm elections and the presidential election, Trump has begun to partially roll back tariffs and revise more extreme policies.
“One that should be deeply reflected on isn’t the mayoral election in New York City, but the gubernatorial election in Virginia,” a senior official of the Trump administration said. In Virginia, the Democratic Party has regained the governorship from the Republicans after 3 years.
The independent voters decide whether the election is won or lost. In the most recent gubernatorial election in 2021, 54% of independent voters voted for the Republican candidate. This time, it has changed: 59% of them voted for the Democratic candidate, which is 19 percentage points higher than the Republican candidate (40%).
