Air Liquide states that the Middle East conflict has caused a helium supply shortage and will reallocate from other regions

French industrial gas giant Air Liquide said on Wednesday that due to the conflict in the Middle East, it expects a short-term shortage of helium, adding that the company plans to reallocate helium supply from other regions.

Air Liquide vice president Armelle Levieux said: “Given the situation in the Middle East and the attacks on natural gas fields last week, there is currently a shortage of helium.”

He said that QatarEnergy, one of the world’s largest natural gas producers, has informed customers that it is experiencing force majeure, adding that helium is a byproduct of natural gas production.

Levieux said the company is staying in close contact with its customers and is sourcing helium from other parts of the world.
