The girl and her family rented a three-story building along a street in town, where the first floor was shops such as a milk tea store and a stationery store, and the second and third floors were residential living areas.

A fellow villager from the same village told media that when the girl went missing, her mother planned to drive back from town to her hometown in the Changling Village area, and asked her daughter Wang to go upstairs to get the keys. After the mother received the keys, she drove away. Changling Village is about 20 minutes away from the rented residence of mother and daughter by car. When the mother returned, she found that the girl was missing.

After receiving the report, the Yuexi County Public Security Bureau quickly deployed police to rush to Qiangpu Town. Together with town and village officials and more than 100 concerned members of the public, they carried out a sweep and inspection of the area where the incident occurred. During the rescue and search, the working group used technical means such as police dogs and drones to conduct a comprehensive search of key areas.
