Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chun-wan, said that since May last year, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has added new terms when renewing food business licenses, clearly requiring license holders not to engage in conduct that could jeopardize or offend national security. He stressed that this approach effectively strengthens the industry’s national security awareness. At present, there have been no instances of non-compliance, but if there are, action will be taken. He expects that as licenses continue to be updated, by September this year, all licenses will also include national security clauses.

Tse Chun-wan made the remarks in an interview with Ta Kung Wen Wei Media in Hong Kong. He said that as eateries are important places in residents’ daily lives, they can also play a role in maintaining social order and national security. The government will continue to implement national security requirements in a practical way through measures such as license management.

He also noted that tensions in international energy situations are currently high, and the situation in the Middle East is also unstable. Meanwhile, the country is developing rapidly in green technologies such as solar energy, wind energy, and new energy vehicles. This not only drives new economic growth, but also increases the share of green energy, greatly improving both the country’s energy security and overall security. Therefore, achieving the goal of carbon neutrality has very important national security significance.

Earlier, Hong Kong released the “Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2050.” Tse Chun-wan said that in the process of green transformation, Hong Kong is expanding the use of electric vehicles and building charging infrastructure. It will also apply green technologies to waste management and improve energy efficiency. In the future, if Hong Kong can rely more on zero-carbon green energy, its ability to respond to energy crises will be stronger, and energy supply will be more stable, more secure.
