During the Qingming holiday, the average daily sales of key retail and catering enterprises nationwide increased by 2.4% year-on-year.

The reporter learned from the Ministry of Commerce that during the Qingming holiday, many regions implemented a spring break with consecutive days off, which strongly released consumer demand and injected vitality into the spring consumer market.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming holiday, the daily average sales revenue of key retail and catering enterprises nationwide increased by 2.4% year over year. Among 78 pedestrian streets (commercial districts) monitored by the Ministry of Commerce, passenger flow and operating revenue increased by 6.0% and 6.7%, respectively.

In terms of goods consumption, as of April 5, 2026’s auto trade-in and renewal program received a total of 1.53M subsidies, driving new-car sales revenue to RMB 246.8 billion. For home appliances trade-in and renewal, and for sales of digital and smart “upgrade-to-new” products, 62.85M units were sold, driving sales revenue of RMB 215.97 billion. According to Ministry of Commerce data, on key platforms, sales revenue of smart glasses and smart watches and bands increased by 3.2 times and 12.3 times, respectively.

In terms of services consumption, the data shows that during the Qingming holiday, the sales revenue of catering enterprises monitored key by the Ministry of Commerce grew by 3.9%. On key platforms, hotel accommodation consumption grew by 2.6%; the number of people traveling across cities increased by 15.1% year over year; theme park consumption grew by 11.7% year over year; orders for parent-child study and exploration doubled year over year; and the number of car-rental orders increased by about 40%.
