Abstract generation in progress

On the evening of April 1, U.S. Eastern Time, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s next-generation lunar rocket “Space Launch System (SLS),” carrying the “Orion” spacecraft, launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It is carrying four astronauts to carry out the crewed lunar-orbit mission for “Artemis 2.”

The mission’s main objective is to validate the spacecraft’s key systems through a deep-space flight lasting about 10 days. Although this mission does not include a lunar landing, it will focus on validating the SLS rocket’s crewed performance and the Orion spacecraft systems, including life support, navigation and communications, and the ability to withstand 2800℃ during reentry thermal protection, laying the groundwork for the crewed Artemis 4 lunar landing in 2028.
