ArcelorMittal Steel Plant Moves to Andhra Pradesh, Odisha Faces Industrial Losses: BJD MP

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has relocated its proposed 12-million-tonne steel plant from Odisha to Andhra Pradesh, prompting strong criticism from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha. BJD MP Sasmit Patra called the move “regrettable and shameful,” citing administrative failure and expressing concerns about lost industrial opportunities, local employment, and the proposed transfer of iron ore. The company cited coastal access, lower logistics costs, and better connectivity to mineral reserves as reasons for choosing Andhra Pradesh, with the issue gaining political significance after the BJP’s recent electoral success in Odisha.
