NASA data shows that an important Russian Black Sea oil terminal has caught fire.
According to satellite images from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), an important Russian oil terminal on the Black Sea caught fire after a nighttime drone attack.
Satellite images from NASA’s Fire Information Resource Management System (FIRMS) on Monday showed a new outbreak of fire in the Novorossiysk port area. Transneft’s Sheskharis terminal—run by Russia’s state oil pipeline operator Transneft—sits in that area.
NASA Fire Information Resource Management System satellite images show a new fire in the Novorossiysk port area, with the Sheskharis oil terminal located in that area.
Transneft did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the current situation at Sheskharis.
The region’s governor, Veniamin Kondratiev, said in a statement that during a nighttime drone attack on the port city of Novorossiysk, eight buildings were damaged. He said that drone wreckage was found in several industrial facilities areas, but provided no further details.
Novorossiysk is Russia’s largest port on the Black Sea, with multiple bulk cargo and general cargo export facilities. In early March, a Ukrainian drone attack had led to a pause in oil shipments from the area.
