Iran conflict impacts energy supply; South Korea restarts a nuclear reactor.

Due to disruptions to energy supply triggered by the Middle East conflict, on Saturday, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. restarted an idled nuclear reactor to ensure the country’s energy supply.

The company said that the Kori Unit 2 nuclear reactor resumed grid power generation after being shut down for three years following the completion of its 40-year operating period.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s president, Kim Hae-jun, said: “Amid the continued instability of energy supply, operating nuclear power plants remains an important means of securing national energy security, while ensuring safety.”

Before this restart, the Korea Nuclear Safety and Security Commission had approved last November to extend the reactor’s operating life to April 2033.
