IT Home March 12 news: This afternoon, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Tesla is building a dedicated production line for its Cybercab. Once the production line enters mass production, it could produce hundreds of autonomous vehicles per week.

It is said, preparations are being carried out at Tesla’s Giga Texas super factory in Austin, Texas. Tesla is increasing headcount and installing new equipment in preparation for Cybercab mass production. Sources say Tesla plans to start mass production of the Cybercab in April.

Cybercab is a two-seat autonomous driving vehicle Tesla is about to launch. The vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals. Its design goal is to be used in Tesla’s future Robotaxi autonomous driving transportation network.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a previous earnings call: “There is no fail-safe mechanism. Either this car can drive itself, or it can’t drive.”

Tesla said that Cybercab production could start as early as April. However, according to Musk’s previous remarks, the initial ramp-up in new vehicle output may be slower, and only later will it gradually increase. The reason is that Cybercab uses an all-new vehicle platform, so capacity ramp-up will take time.

Cybercab will be equipped with Tesla’s FSD (Full Self-Driving) system and will support the autonomous ride-hailing service Tesla has planned. Tesla said that if large-scale production is achieved, the Cybercab’s price could be below $30,000 (IT Home note: at the current exchange rate, approximately RMB 206,000 in cash terms), making it one of Tesla’s lowest-priced models.

Musk previously confirmed on the social platform X that the Cybercab will indeed be sold to ordinary consumers, with a price below $30,000. If market demand and production capacity expand according to plan, Tesla could produce millions of Cybercabs every year in the future.
