Changan Automobile approved for L4-level Robotaxi testing license, establishing a dual-tier pattern of L3 and L4 intelligent driving technology
On March 27, Changan Automobile was officially approved for an L4 Robotaxi testing license, becoming an automaker with fully compliant, end-to-end qualification for real-world testing across all scenarios for L4 autonomous driving. This is another key leap in the field of autonomous driving for Changan Automobile, following its receipt of the country’s first official license plate dedicated to L3 autonomous driving on December 2025. It signals an industry landscape in which companies are forming a dual-stage, synchronized lead with L3 and L4 intelligent driving technologies.
On March 27, Changan Automobile was officially approved for an L4 Robotaxi testing license.
The rapid rollout of Changan Automobile’s L4 intelligent driving technology is mainly driven by Tianshu Intelligent’s “end-to-end, same-source” technology. L4 Robotaxi achieves technical same-source alignment with mass-production L2 and L3 models, and the underlying algorithms are highly reusable, addressing an industry pain point caused by the disconnect between low-level and high-level autonomous driving technologies. Tianshu Intelligent’s iterative optimization of its end-to-end L4 model, based on real-world road data collected from million-level mass-production L2+ models, covers a full range of complex scenarios such as urban commuting, highway trunk routes, congested segments, and harsh weather. This creates an efficient R&D closed loop of “testing—optimization—feedback,” accelerating L4 product deployment.
Leveraging Chongqing’s unique terrain, Changan Automobile’s Tianshu Intelligent end-to-end model iterates rapidly, successfully helping the Robotaxi officially move into the stage of real vehicle testing on public roads.
Chongqing’s terrain is unique, with many slopes and dense curves and complex traffic flows. It covers diverse road conditions such as cross-river bridges, mountainous slopes, and multi-level urban transportation, providing a full-scenario, high-difficulty real-world validation environment for advanced intelligent driving technologies. Based on this high-quality testing ecosystem, Changan Automobile’s Tianshu Intelligent end-to-end model iterates rapidly, successfully helping the Robotaxi officially move into the stage of real vehicle testing on public roads.
