In 2025, China's science fiction industry will generate a total revenue of 126.1 billion yuan.
At the opening of the 2026 China Science Fiction Conference on March 27, the China Science Popularization Research Institute released the “2026 China Science Fiction Industry Report.” In 2025, the total revenue of China’s science fiction industry reached 126.1 billion yuan, breaking the 100 billion yuan mark for three consecutive years. China’s science fiction industry is steadily entering a new stage of high-quality development.
The report covers five core industries: science fiction reading, science fiction film and television, science fiction games, science fiction derivatives, and science fiction cultural tourism, focusing on analyzing the annual development characteristics and future trends of the Chinese science fiction industry.
The report shows that the science fiction reading industry generated a revenue of 5.19 billion yuan for the year, achieving growth for eight consecutive years, with online science fiction literature becoming the core growth driver of digital reading. The science fiction film and television industry generated a revenue of 8.16 billion yuan for the year, a year-on-year increase of 21.6%, with the influence of domestic science fiction dramas and animations continuously rising, and AIGC short videos accelerating their rise.
The gaming industry generated a revenue of 77.91 billion yuan for the year, with domestic science fiction games performing well in overseas markets. The science fiction derivatives industry generated a revenue of 7.07 billion yuan for the year, a year-on-year increase of 179.4%, with original IP being the core driving force of the market, and new forms of products such as AI trendy toys injecting new vitality into the market.
The science fiction cultural tourism industry generated a revenue of 27.77 billion yuan for the year, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. Theme parks contributed core revenue, with locally produced amusement projects continuously increasing. New scenarios such as VR large spaces, immersive exhibitions, and script entertainment are constantly expanding the boundaries of experience.
In addition, this year’s report added two new observation dimensions: the science fiction technology equipment industry generated a revenue of 24.74 billion yuan for the year, forming a cross-border application pattern centered on digital content production technology, led by AI, and characterized by immersive experiences; the search popularity of Chinese science fiction surged by 203.3% year-on-year, with the overseas audience size of phenomenon-level IPs continuing to expand.
The report analyzes that, overall, the Chinese science fiction industry has formed a multidimensional pattern of collaborative development across five sectors, and continues to expand growth space in new fields such as technology equipment and international communication. With the enhancement of original IP capabilities, deep empowerment of digital technology, and continuous innovation of consumer scenarios, the Chinese science fiction industry is accelerating toward a new stage of high-quality development characterized by structural optimization and upgrading of driving forces, showcasing new advantages in cultural and technological integration on a global scale.
