Spokesperson of the Chinese Consulate General in Perth issues a statement regarding the "Yuxiao Peak" cargo ship being considered a so-called "threat."
Recently, Western Australian media has exaggerated that the Chinese bulk carrier “Yuxiaofeng” docked at the Port of Kwinana poses a so-called “threat” to British nuclear submarines. The Chinese Consulate General in Perth has contacted the relevant parties and would like to clarify the facts as follows. The “Yuxiaofeng” cargo ship arrived at the Port of Kwinana on February 13 to prepare for loading barley, and on the early morning of the 14th, it was piloted into the inner anchorage as per port instructions, where all cargo ships carrying grain are waiting. On the 23rd, it docked according to port instructions, and four Australian customs officers boarded the ship for a routine inspection. After completing the loading on the 25th, it entered the inner anchorage as required and departed on the afternoon of the 26th. The above facts are clear; the Chinese cargo ship is purely a commercial operation and strictly complies with Australian regulations. Many Chinese cargo ships travel to Western Australia weekly, carrying iron ore, grain, and other goods, forming an important support for cooperation between China and Western Australia. The so-called “threat” is entirely fabricated and even deliberately sensationalized. The “West Australian” published an article on February 26, clarifying the above facts. The consulate has also noticed that people in the consular district are voicing their support. The Chinese Consulate General in Perth sincerely calls on the Western Australian media to report with an objective and responsible attitude, reflecting the development of bilateral relations and friendly cooperation based on factual accuracy, rather than resorting to alarmist rhetoric about a “Chinese threat.” The consulate is willing to continue adhering to the principles of mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and mutually beneficial cooperation, working with all sectors of Western Australia to promote practical cooperation and friendly exchanges in various fields, to better benefit the people of both sides.
