An 82-year-old Kentucky farmer named Ida Huddleston and her family rejected a $26 million acquisition offer from a major artificial intelligence company that planned to use part of their 1,200-acre farm to build a data center. They expressed concerns that it would lead to a reduction in farmland, water scarcity, and environmental pollution. Huddleston dismissed the company's promises of providing local job opportunities and promoting economic growth, calling them a "scam." The unnamed company subsequently submitted an application to rezone over 2,000 acres of nearby land for industrial use, meaning the data center would likely be built next to their farm.
