OpenAI announced the shutdown of its hit AI video generation app Sora, just six months after its launch at the end of 2025. The text-to-video platform quickly gained over one million downloads and became a popular tool in the cryptocurrency Twitter community for creating market analysis videos and memes. However, due to the high computational costs of video generation, Sora struggled to maintain user retention rates. The company announced the app's closure on March 24, citing an inability to compete in the mature short-form video market dominated by platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
