Microsoft releases the March security update for Win10: fixes system freezes, updates certificates, enhances stability of some graphics cards, and more
IT House, March 11 — Microsoft released KB5078885 cumulative update for Windows 10 users enrolled in the “Extended Security Updates” (ESU) program during this month’s Patch Tuesday (March 10). After installation, the version number is upgraded to Build 19045.7058.
IT House note: Users can download the update directly via “Check for updates” in Settings. Microsoft also provides .msu offline installation packages for scenarios involving multiple devices.
This cumulative update focuses on security fixes and system stability improvements, primarily addressing issues reported by users such as frequent freezes or malfunctioning of the Start menu, taskbar, and other system components.
In the official update log, Microsoft explicitly states that it has fixed a stability vulnerability affecting some GPU configurations. However, the company has not publicly disclosed the affected GPU models.
In this version, Microsoft replaced the “Secure Boot 2023” certificate on more devices. Since the old certificate will expire in June 2026, Microsoft is updating the UEFI validation certificates in phases to effectively block boot sector malware (Rootkits).
Regarding feature improvements, Microsoft added warning dialogs to the System Image Manager’s file selection feature to prevent accidental operations. Additionally, a long-standing bug that caused the “File History” feature in the Control Panel to malfunction has been fixed.
