Hezhang County People’s Government Information Office reported on the afternoon of March 23:
At around 7 a.m. on March 23, 2026, a traffic accident occurred on Yuanzhou Avenue, Hezhang County. After receiving the report, public security, emergency, medical rescue, and other departments quickly rushed to the scene for handling.
According to investigations, the driver Zhang Mouguang (male, 49 years old) was driving his own Wuling minivan with illegal overcapacity. While passing through Yuanzhou Avenue in Hekang Town, he collided with a large truck parked on the roadside, resulting in 2 students dead and 14 students injured. The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment, with no life-threatening conditions. After the accident, driver Zhang Mouguang was taken into custody by the public security authorities. Tests have ruled out suspicion of drunk or drugged driving.
Currently, work on medical treatment for the injured and accident investigation is proceeding in an orderly manner.
