Patent Warfare Positions Reversed? Insta360 Claims DJI Products Fall Within Its 28 Patents' Protection Range

Phoenix Technology News (Author: Yu Lei) — On March 24, the patent battle between YingShi and DJI over intelligent imaging patents has become a contest of offense and defense. In response to DJI’s lawsuit concerning the ownership dispute of six patents, YingShi has issued multiple statements, accusing DJI products of copying their innovative designs, and claiming that internal investigations show DJI’s related technologies fall within YingShi’s 28 patent protections.

On March 23, YingShi made an initial statement regarding the lawsuit, indicating that the current dispute mainly involves patent ownership by certain former employees, and that internal checks show the relevant technological achievements were independently developed. Today, YingShi’s China regional head Yuan Yue further stated that several products launched by DJI in recent years, such as panoramic and thumb cameras, have designs and functions that overlap with YingShi’s existing products.

According to data disclosed by YingShi founder Liu Jingkang, DJI is suspected of infringing on 28 patents protected by YingShi, including 11 hardware/structural patents, 8 software method patents, 6 control method patents, and 3 accessory patents. The release of this specific data marks a substantial expansion of competition between the two companies from product and channel levels into a cross-licensing patent battle.

In the intelligent imaging sector, both companies are accelerating mutual infiltration across their product lines. By 2025, YingShi entered the panoramic drone field, while DJI has launched panoramic and thumb cameras. According to the latest IDC data, YingShi currently holds 66% and 57% market share in the global panoramic camera and thumb camera markets, respectively. During DJI’s entry into this field, its product designs have attracted attention from overseas reviewers and tech media such as The Verge, which pointed out that DJI’s Osmo 360 shares high similarities with YingShi’s products in quick view functions, interactive visuals, and app interfaces.

Regarding the current legal process, YingShi states that the final outcome will be determined by the court. On the operational side, YingShi revealed that in the fourth quarter of last year, they achieved a new revenue high, and they plan to continue focusing on product technology development, further advancing their product lines including gimbal cameras, audio devices, and drones.
