On the 23rd local time, the European Commission called on EU member states to proactively start natural gas storage and prepare for coordination ahead of the next heating season to address the energy market uncertainties caused by the Middle East situation. The European Commission stated that, currently, the global energy market is experiencing increased volatility due to the Middle East conflict. Although the overall EU energy supply remains secure, coordinated actions are still needed to ensure the smooth replenishment of natural gas reserves before this winter. EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said that the EU is still exposed to global energy market fluctuations and must start gas storage early to extend injection periods, ease price pressures, and avoid risks associated with concentrated storage replenishment at the end of summer.
