Social media recently claimed that Hong Kong residents can directly apply for permanent Guangdong-Hong Kong regular quota for their vehicles. The Transport Department reminds the public not to believe false information to avoid being misled, and will refer the matter to law enforcement authorities for follow-up.

A spokesperson clarified that applicants must currently meet the application requirements set by mainland authorities and submit designated application documents to mainland authorities before applying for the Guangdong-Hong Kong regular quota. Once the mainland authorities issue a “approval card,” applicants can apply to the Transport Department for a permit to access designated land border crossing points via closed roads.

The Transport Department reiterates that the arrangement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong regular quota must be jointly discussed and comprehensively considered by both governments. Citizens should rely on official announcements, verify carefully, and beware of scams to avoid affecting their travel plans.
