Paid in Crypto $1,000, Israeli Soldier Accused of Leaking Iron Dome Secrets to Iran
An Israeli Air Defense Systems Iron Dome reserve soldier is accused of leaking sensitive military secrets to Iranian intelligence agents in exchange for approximately $1,000 in cryptocurrency payments.
According to a report by The Times of Israel, a 26-year-old man named Raz Cohen allegedly communicated with Iranian intelligence officials over several months. During this period, he is said to have handed over various important information related to Israel's defense systems.
The leaked information includes operational details of the Iron Dome, locations of air bases, and a list of Israeli officials. This data is classified as highly sensitive because it directly relates to the nation's defense systems and strategic security.
The case has drawn serious attention from Israeli authorities, given that the Iron Dome is one of the most vital air defense systems in countering rocket and missile threats. An information leak of this nature could potentially create significant security vulnerabilities.
Raz Cohen now faces serious charges, with threats of maximum punishment including life imprisonment or even capital punishment, depending on the trial outcome.
Notably, the use of crypto as a payment method in this case again highlights how digital assets increasingly appear in cross-border activities, including intelligence operations. Cryptocurrency's relatively anonymous and cross-border characteristics make it frequently used in transactions that are difficult to trace through conventional means.
