Bloomberg News has learned that Amazon (AMZN.US) stated on Monday that due to the current conflict in the Middle East, its Amazon Web Services (AWS) region in Bahrain experienced a “service interruption.” An Amazon spokesperson said the outage was caused by drone activity in the area.

Amazon said that during the service recovery, it is assisting customers in migrating to other AWS regions, but did not provide additional details such as the extent of damage or how long the outage is expected to last.

In a statement issued Monday evening, Amazon said, “As the situation develops, as we previously advised, we are asking those with workloads in the affected areas to continue migrating to other locations.”

It is understood that AWS is Amazon’s cloud computing division, critical to the operation of many well-known websites and government services, and also a major source of the company’s profits.

This outage is the second drone attack on the AWS Bahrain region facility since the outbreak of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. Earlier this month, AWS reported that its facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates were affected by power outages, and efforts are underway to fully restore services.
