China's automakers achieve global sales of nearly 27 million vehicles in 2025, surpassing Japan for the first time to rank first in the world

Insight Network News: On March 22, according to the Japan Economic News website, Japanese automaker’s global cumulative vehicle sales in 2025 slightly declined to approximately 25 million units, marking the first time since 2000 that Japan has fallen from the top spot. Chinese automakers’ total global sales last year reached nearly 27 million units, surpassing Japan to become the world’s number one for the first time.

According to publicly available information, BYD’s 2025 sales will surpass Ford, ranking sixth globally; Geely’s sales will surpass Honda, ranking eighth. In the pure electric vehicle segment, BYD has overtaken Tesla to become the global leader.
