Wang Yi Had a Phone Call with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar
On March 10th, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held a phone call with Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, as scheduled. Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein introduced Pakistan’s stance on the current Iran situation, calling on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the crisis through peaceful negotiations. Pakistan appreciated China’s efforts to de-escalate the situation and expressed willingness to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on platforms like the United Nations to jointly seek effective ways to achieve peace. Wang Yi stated that China and Pakistan, as all-weather strategic partners, have a good tradition of communication and coordination on major international and regional issues. Both sides promptly expressed firm positions on the Iran situation, demonstrating a responsible attitude and adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. The origin of this war lacks legitimacy and legality, and its continuation will only cause more unnecessary casualties. The fundamental way to prevent the situation from worsening is for the US and Israel to cease military actions. We also do not support attacks on Gulf countries and condemn all acts targeting civilian facilities and innocent civilians. China appreciates Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional stability and is willing to maintain multilateral coordination and cooperation with Pakistan, support Pakistan in continuing to play a constructive role, and jointly work towards early peace and stability in the region. The two sides also exchanged views on the border conflicts between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Wang Yi said that China’s Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs is shuttling between Afghanistan and Pakistan to mediate and promote peace talks. The urgent task is to prevent the conflict from expanding and return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. China firmly supports Pakistan in fighting terrorism and hopes Pakistan will continue to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan. Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein thanked China for its mediation efforts, emphasizing that Pakistan attaches great importance to and will do its best to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel.
