In 2025, to commemorate the 240th anniversary of the birth of national hero Lin Zexu, Hong Kong Radio Television (RTHK) launched a five-episode documentary series, “Lin Zexu: Beyond the Opium Destruction at Humen,” which introduces Lin Zexu’s life and his contributions and achievements beyond the opium destruction. RTHK also produced a 90-minute film version of the program, held multiple community screenings, invited historians and youth groups for exchanges, and will arrange screenings for interested groups later.

Recently, the Secretary for Security, Chris Tang, who is busy promoting a new anti-drug campaign, together with the Commissioner for Narcotics, Louis Kuo, attended the screening of the film version of “Lin Zexu: Beyond the Opium Destruction at Humen” last Friday (March 20). Tang encouraged young people to learn from Lin Zexu’s broad-mindedness, sense of responsibility, and patriotism.

Tang also quoted Lin Zexu’s poem, “If the nation’s survival is at stake, I would risk my life; why fear misfortune or blessing,” hoping that young people can learn from history and actively work together to safeguard national security.
