On the 10th local time, the G7 Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held at the International Energy Agency headquarters in Paris. IEA Director Fatih Birol presented the agency’s assessment of the global oil and natural gas market situation. He stated that the global oil and gas markets have been significantly impacted by the Middle East conflict. Birol said that recent oil market conditions have worsened noticeably. In addition to challenges faced by shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a large amount of oil production has also been forced to cut back, increasing the risk of market instability. Participants discussed various response options, including releasing emergency oil reserves held by the IEA. Currently, IEA member countries hold over 1.2 billion barrels of public emergency oil reserves, with an additional approximately 600 million barrels held by companies at the request of governments.
