Hong Kong experiences a HKD 100 million gold heist! 73 kilograms of gold bars stolen, details disclosed
According to the Hong Kong Police, on March 20, a gold robbery occurred at Peninsula Square on Chung On Street, Hung Hom, involving 73 gold bars each weighing 1 kilogram, valued at approximately HKD 100 million. The police responded quickly after receiving the report, arresting five suspects—three men and two women—and successfully recovered the stolen 73 kilograms of gold.
The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. on the 20th, when a man, acting as a buyer, was conducting a gold transaction with staff at a jewelry store inside an office building on Chung On Street, Hung Hom. Suddenly, two men and one woman burst into the office, claiming that the company’s responsible person owed a large debt. Taking advantage of the chaos, they seized the 73 gold bars, weighing about 73 kilograms in total, and placed them into a suitcase.
The West Kowloon Regional Crime Headquarters launched an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage and analyzing intelligence. They arrested four men and one woman in Central and Tai Po. All stolen gold was recovered from a vehicle near the Tai Po suspect’s residence. It is understood that one of the suspects had previous business dealings with the robbed gold shop. The police stated that the case is still under investigation, and all suspects will remain in custody for further questioning.
The police also urge citizens to be cautious when handling valuable items or large sums of cash, to keep their travel and transaction details confidential, and to prevent criminals from exploiting opportunities. When transporting goods from different locations, it is advisable to hire reputable security companies to ensure safety.
