The three major U.S. stock indices declined significantly on March 18. The Dow Jones Index fell 768.11 points, the S&P 500 dropped 91.39 points, and the Nasdaq fell 327.11 points. All S&P 500 sectors declined, with consumer staples and consumer discretionary sectors experiencing the largest declines.

Xinhua News Agency, New York, March 18 — The three major stock indexes in New York’s stock market declined significantly on the 18th.

At the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 768.11 points to 46,225.15 points, a decrease of 1.63%; the S&P 500 index dropped 91.39 points to 6,624.7 points, a decline of 1.36%; the Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 327.11 points to 22,152.42 points, down 1.46%.

In terms of sectors, all eleven sectors of the S&P 500 declined. The consumer discretionary and consumer staples sectors led the declines with drops of 2.44% and 2.32%, respectively, while the energy sector had the smallest decline at 0.16%.
