Middle East Situation | Iran: Strait of Hormuz Open to Non-Hostile Vessels
Iran’s representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ali Mousavi, stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all vessels, except those associated with Iran’s enemies.
He said that Tehran is willing to cooperate with the IMO to improve maritime security in the Gulf region and protect seafarers. Vessels not linked to Iran’s enemies can still pass through the Strait of Hormuz as long as they coordinate security and safety arrangements with Tehran.
He pointed out that diplomacy remains Iran’s priority. However, a complete halt to aggression and mutual trust and confidence are more important. Israel and the United States’ attacks on Iran are the root causes of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Former U.S. President Trump previously threatened to attack Iran’s power plants if the waterway was not fully open within 48 hours.
